MG Cars on the Australian Market

MG SUPER SPORTS

Of huge significance to the history of MG, the Super Sports was built during the mid 1920s before the formation of the MG Car Company in 1928. MG founder Cecil Kimber started modifying Morris Cowleys for purchasers seeking something a little different from the vehicles coming out of Morris  Garages.   Mostly  fitted  with lightweight bodies, it was a foretaste of things to come.

MG TC

Introduced in 1945 as a worked-over prewar TB, the MGTC is a vehicle that has taken on cult status. With its 1,250cc four-cylinder, it was good enough for 75mph. However, the TC introduced a generation of motorists to seat-of-the-pants sports cars. It was the TC that fired America's interest in British sports cars and was the forerunner of many thousands of similar cars in the future.

MGA

The MGA was the last MG sports car to feature a separate chassis. Early models

with four-cylinder 1.5 litre engines ran just under 100mph, but later models fitted with

1.6 litre and DOHC engines managed it easily. With over 100,000 built between 1955 and 1962, it was by far the most popular MG built to date, also available with an attractive fixed head coupe body.

MGB/C/V8

Still very popular among British classic car enthusiasts, the MGB was built between 1962
and 1980 in greater numbers than any British sports car. The MGB was the first monocoque
MG and while most were fitted with a 1,798cc four-cylinder, the MGC was available with a 3-litre six-cylinder and, in the case of the V8, the ubiquitous Rover alloy V8.
